One out of three children use e-cigarettes

With the financing of the Health Promotion Fund under the Ministry of Health, the Association of Teachers and Researchers for the Development of Health Education organized the campaign “Effects of electronic cigarettes on the health of young people”. Within this framework, a basic survey was conducted and 667 students aged between 11 and 18 from the capital and rural areas were included, and their knowledge about electronic cigarettes was shared.

458 children said that they do not use it, but 209 said they do use electronic cigarettes. According to the survey, it was estimated that 14 to 16-year-olds use e-cigarettes the most. 60 percent of users were male and the rest were female. When looking at the factors affecting their usage, there were many responses that it was due to a friend or family member smoking e-cigarettes near them. 90 percent of the children who use e-cigarettes said they have tried to quit smoking last year, while 10 percent have not tried to quit at all. In addition, shopkeepers sell cigarettes without asking their age.

According to the survey, it was determined that the knowledge of teenagers about e-cigarettes is insufficient, and the use of vape is high, and it is necessary to organize extensive preventive work against the use.
