Less people enrolled in forestry studies

The Forestry Department of the Government of Mongolia has announced that it is organizing the work to increase the human resources and capabilities of the forestry sector in stages within the framework of the “Billion Trees” national movement. In the 2022-2023 academic year, 77 students enrolled in universities and colleges to study forestry, which is a decrease compared to last year’s or 266 students. As of now, 528 people are studying as forest maintenance and utilization workers, 37 in agriculture, 11 as technicians, and a total of 628 people are studying in the vocational training center and other educational institutions. Experts have mentioned that the number of young people studying to become forest technicians and foresters is decreasing. In the academic year 2022-2023, 32 people were enrolled to study as technicians, and 20 specialists graduated as foresters.

In order to increase human resources, government organizations in charge of forestry are working with universities that train experts in this field, and are also focusing on promoting the value of forestry to children and youth. On the International Forestry Day on March 21, the Forestry Department organized “Forest9+” speech and debate competition and “Evening Bud” academic conference among students and young people.
