Asian new record set in powerlifting

The Pattaya 2024 Para Powerlifting World Cup kicked off in Pattaya, Thailand on May 8. In four days of competition, 149 athletes from 31 countries competed for medals and better positioning in the 2024 rankings eyeing a spot at the Paralympic Games in Paris. From Mongolia, D.Jigmed participated in men’s 54 kg category, A.Amartaivan in 65 kg category, the Paralympic champion and world champion, E.Sodnompiljee in 107 kg category, and B.Uranjargal in women’s 86 kg category under the leadership of the head coach of the national team, D.Battulga and assistant coach B.Enkhbayar. 

In the 54 kg weight category, D.Jigmed won the gold medal by lifting 128 kg from the chest in the first lift, setting a new record for young people in Asia. He successfully held 131 kg and 140 kg in the next two lifts, breaking his record again and qualifying for the title of international master. From this competition, qualification points for the “Paris-2024” Summer Paralympics were awarded, and the last Paralympic qualification competition will be held in Tbilisi, Georgia on June 20-26.
